The Rangers Hideout is a Level 4 ranged tower, with a good range and a high rate of fire. Its spells include Wrath of the Forest, which traps ground-based enemies in place, and Poison Arrows, which deals true damage over time.
When compared to its counterpart, the Musketeer Garrison, the Rangers Hideout deals more damage over time and has generally better crowd control. However, its range is noticeably lower and it performs poorly against heavily armored and large targets, which its counterpart is more suited for.
Description[]
"Legendary masters of the bow, they can unleash a hail of arrows faster and further than any other force in the realm."
Perched on platforms placed in an ancient tree, Rangers fire a deadly rain of arrows at the enemy, with the fastest fire rate in the game. They are masters at taking down light and medium enemies, although their damage per shot is rather minimal. The Rangers Hideout is the first advanced tower to be introduced in the game, making its first appearance in Silveroak Forest.
While its Poison Arrows do allow it to take down some weaker armored troops, it's best not to rely on them. One should place the Rangers Hideout next to large groups of unarmored enemies, where Wrath of the Forest can be used to its full extent, such as near graveyards or demon portals.
Abilities[]
Poison Arrows[]
"It won't hurt...for long."
Poisons enemies, causing them to take True Damage over 3 seconds. A Rangers Hideout upgraded with Poison Arrows prioritizes enemies which are not immune to poison but are not currently poisoned, this is however not consistent on all versions, and some will switch to targeting enemies closest to the exit once all vulnerable targets have been poisoned. This effect does not stack.
Level | Cost | Damage Per Second |
1 | 250 | 5 |
2 | 250 | 10 |
3 | 250 | 15 |
The following enemies are immune to poison:
- Giant Spiders
- Spider Matriarch
- Spider Hatchling
- Skeleton
- Skeleton Knight
- Magma Elemental
- Son of Sarelgaz
- Noxious Creeper
- Mutated Hatchlings
- Husk
- Zombie
Wrath of the Forest[]
"It's a trap!"
Summons thorns and vines that trap up to 8 enemies* in the range, dealing 40 physical damage every second. Trapped enemies have their regeneration interfered. This ability needs at least two enemies in range to trigger, and can only be used three times total on any one enemy. (Cooldown: 8 seconds)
*: Excludes bosses and mini-bosses.
Level | Cost | Duration |
1 | 300 | 1s |
2 | 150 | 2s |
3 | 150 | 3s |
Wrath of the Forest does not affect Spectral Knights. This is most likely because they are immune to physical damage.
Range[]
- 43% wider than the Level 1 Archer Tower
- 25% wider than the Level 2 Marksmen Tower
- 11% wider than the Level 3 Sharpshooter Tower
- 15% narrower than Musketeer Garrison
Strategy[]
General tips[]
- Useful for taking out groups of small unarmored or lightly armored units, such as Orcs, Bandits, Skeleton, Skeleton knight, Zombie, Demon Spawn, Gargoyle, Trol..., You understand the idea.
- Unlike bullets from Musketeers, arrows from Rangers can often miss their targets, potentially reducing their killing efficiency. This is usually only a concern for especially fast or flying enemies, which are naturally harder to consistently hit.
- The Rangers Hideout is the most cost effective way to take out most Demonic enemies, making it an excellent choice in the later stages of the campaign and any other level where Demons appear, most notably Pandaemonium. Be warned that artillery can still prove the superior choice in some situations, as the number of affected targets only goes so far.
- Troll enemies are also perfect targets for the Rangers Hideout, although Chieftains and Breakers especially will take a long time to fall, likely making it past the tower in the latter case.
- Poison Arrows and Wrath of the Forest can be very effective against the health regeneration ability. The following enemies can regenerate their health..
Poison Arrows[]
- Use poison arrows to deal damage against armored units such as Marauders, Brigands, Orc Champions, and Demon Legions.
- Poison Arrows cause the Rangers to spread their attacks onto multiple foes, while also dealing a little more damage. This is especially effective when dealing with Gargoyles and wolves (Worgs, Winter Wolves, Demon Hounds) since the tower can simultaneously weaken many enemies for other towers to kill.
Wrath of the Forest[]
- A fully upgraded Wrath of the Forest is very effective against Graveyards, since it will kill all Skeletons on easy and normal difficulty.
- If Lycans in human form are killed while affected by Wrath of the Forest, they will not transform into wolf form.

Conclusion[]
The Rangers Hideout is one of the most versatile towers in Kingdom Rush, with the fastest fire rate in the game (0.4s), great range, good DPS, and abilities which allow them to manage groups of small enemies and weaken armored enemies. Although they cannot do much against the more powerful enemies, these masters of the bow will prove useful in almost all situations.
