A dragon lives forever.

HeroProfile Faustus

Faustus the Dragon Mage is a Hero in Kingdom Rush: Origins. He is unlocked by paying $6.99 as an in-app purchase and at the Shrine of Elynie on Steam. He starts at level 5.

Description[]

Tales say he was a close friend of the goddess Elynie, others claim that the Draco constellation lost a star the night he was born. Legends go far beyond that saying that he is the eternal protector of the elves, meant to watch out for them until the end of times. Whichever the truth is, Faustus has unlocked almost all the secrets of draconian sorcery, one still remains a mystery.

Lore[]

When the elves were created, the Goddess Elynie chose Faustus to protect and watch over them until the end of times, and thus she linked his soul to her most cherished treasure: the Tear of Elynie.

Faustus watched over the elves while their civilization strived and bloomed. He was there to bless the little Princess Alleria when she took her first breath. The elves, in return, respected and loved him and it was every elven wizard's dream to learn the advanced incantation techniques from him.

He remained devoted to this task until the fateful day the dreadful Spider Goddess corrupted the crystal's essence and in the process, Faustus`s soul. Tainted by the dark forces, he gradually abandoned the draconian sorcery and turned into the dark magic arts, a powerful force that consumed his flesh, leaving only his bones behind. Nothing remained of the former elven protector, not even his name, as he was now known as Bonehart.

Tips and Tricks[]

Faustus is a flying hero that excels at lane harassing and crowd control on a large lane area. His skillset specializes in disrupting groups of enemies and weakening their advances, with tools such as teleporting foes back, disabling abilities from enemies, and igniting a large area of a path for weakening tough foes and killing off weaker foes. While Faustus is able to sweep swarms of weaker foes easily with his abilities alone, positioning and micromanagement of his abilities is essential to assure any area control abilities are being tactically used, as Faustus is unable to kill off a strong and beefy foe easily on his own. Overall, Faustus serves as a true damage area sweeper that is able to carpet-bomb wide stretches of area to disrupt and scorch advancing foes.

Despite Faustus dealing true damage via both his attacks and all of his abilities, Faustus' regular attacks are split into 3 projectiles that deal a third of the listed damage. This means that Faustus is able to deal damage to multiple enemies at once. This serves as a double-edged sword, as Faustus is unable to deal massive damage against an important target unless said foe was isolated.

Faustus has a significantly fast travel speed, allowing him to travel to another area in need quickly. Due to Faustus not being able to easily kill foes as effectively compared to other flying heroes, players are recommended to adopt an attack and defend playstyle with Faustus to make use of his abilities, travel speed, and attacks.

  • Dragon Lance serves as Faustus' single target damage ability, which deals up to 470 true damage to a single enemy. This skill can be interrupted to the player to select a foe to receive the damage dealt by Dragon Lance at the right circumstances. Dragon Lance has a cooldown of 25 seconds.
    • One good way of using Dragon Lance is to attack an isolated foe separated from weaker foes whilst making use of his area sweeping abilities. Thankfully, Faustus is able to achieve scenarios where tough foes were isolated owing to his abilities being able to severely injure or kill weaker enemies, with the help of micromanaging and positioning.
  • Teleport Rune serves as one Faustus' crowd control tool, which teleports up to 6 enemies about 35 nodes back down the path. This can be used in great effect to control a path of enemies from overwhelming a chokepoint. Teleport Rune has a cooldown of 30 seconds.
    • It is recommended to keep track of the cooldown of Teleport Rune as using the skill during critical situations will give the player's chokepoint some breathing space for healing and subsequent combat. A well-timed Teleport Rune makes the difference between enemies being unable to break through the chokepoint, or overrunning the chokepoint.
  • Enervation serves as Faustus's disabling tool, which disables up to 3 enemies from performing magical abilities for 12 seconds. This can be incredibly useful if positioned well, since Enervation has a smaller area of effect. Enervation has a cooldown of 20 seconds.
    • Enervation is sometimes used on enemies that does not perform magical abilities, or on targets already silenced by a Wild Magus. Due to this flaw, players are recommended be aware of the cooldown of Enervation in orrr to fully utilize the potential the skill can bring.
    • Due to this skill's shorter range, it is recommended for players to micromanage Faustus directly at a group of spellcasters in order to catch said foes from utilizing their abilities.
  • Liquid Fire serves as Faustus' signature harassment and crowd control tool that scorches an area ahead of Faustus through magical fire, and spreads gradually downwards a path, dealing up to 210 area true damage over 6 seconds. Liquid Fire is triggered when there are more than 3 enemies near Faustus's vicinity. Areas in flames extinguish gradually over 6 seconds, with newer areas set alight being extinguished the latest. As such, positioning is crucial for this ability, as it has a 40 second cooldown on the definitive platforms of Kingdom Rush: Origins (Android/Steam), and 60 seconds on iOS.
    • Flying enemies can be ignited by Liquid Fire.
    • When positioning Liquid Fire, players are recommended to move Faustus at least slightly ahead to ensure the entire stretching area of flames will affect the most targets. instead of being blocked by friendly units, unless in a critical situation.
    • Liquid Fire can alternatively be used to create a fiery prelude for incoming foes headed towards a chokepoint of friendly units. This will weaken any incoming foes coming to overrun the chokepoint.
    • Liquid Fire does not stack with the flames generated from Faustus' Hero Spell, Dragon Rage, and is therefore unfeasible to utilize both at the same time. Players are recommended to keep track of Liquid Fire's cooldown before casting Dragon Rage at an area near Faustus' coverage.
  • Dragon Rage is Faustus' signature Hero Spell that excels in harassing and weakening foes via blanketing areas with magical fire with the help of 3 dragonlings, dealing up to 210 area true damage over 6 seconds. Dragon Rage can help circumvent the long cooldown of Liquid Fire, giving an excellent secondary tool for crowd control in lieu of Liquid Fire.
    • Flying enemies can be ignited by Dragon Rage.
    • The dragonlings take about 1 to 2 seconds to arrive at the targeted position to blanket the area with flames, depending on the location of the targeted position. Therefore, players are recommended to time Dragon Rage in advance to account for the expected delays.
    • Additionally, the dragonlings will only attack from left to right or right to left, leaving horizontal lines of flames. This means that on vertical lanes, the fire spread will be very tight and will lose a lot of potential.
      • In order to maximize their damage output, players are advised to use the spell on lanes where enemies advance horizontally, allowing Dragon Rage to cover a wide area with their flames.

Trivia[]

  • Ironhide Game Studio confirmed the theory that Faustus would eventually become the dragon hero Bonehart. This was initially theorised based on them both sharing an eloquent form of speech and Faustus making a passing comment about 'living forever'.
    • The link is further suggested by the origin of Faustus' name. Doctor Faustus is a play based on a German tale called Faust about a scholar who sells his soul to the Devil in exchange for unlimited knowledge and earthly pleasures for a set number of years, after which the Devil claims his soul and he becomes eternally damned.
  • Dracarys means "dragon fire" in the fictional High Valyrian language from the book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin.
