Tips and Tricks[]

Durax, together with his Crystallites serve as both melee and ranged heroes that excel in stalling, disrupting, harassing and damaging both isolated foes and groups of enemies. All of Durax and his Crystallites' attacks and abilities deal true damage and work well whether they are together or apart. Micromanagement is crucial when using Durax, this is because Durax and his copies are fragile and if left unattended, will shave off potential damage for a long duration when one of his copies are eliminated, which is compounded if the original Durax dies. Overall, while fragile, Durax serves as a prime example of glass cannon units that can stay strong whether united or divided.

  • While Durax isn't very strong on his own, the help of Crystallites helps mitigate this weak point;
    • Crystallites will periodically spawn at Durax's current location when triggered, and can be utilized while idle. Crystallites spawn from Durax every 50 seconds, and last for up to 75 seconds.
      • At level 3, Crystallites allows Durax to maintain a temporary third copy of himself active at the same time for 25 seconds.
      • This also means it is crucial to keep the original Durax alive, as additional Crystallites will not spawn from Durax if he is slain, and the Crystallites run on a set timer before expiring. It is also recommended to maintain the health of the Crystallites, as the premature death of one will severely hamper Durax's overall damage and stalling capabilities for the duration.
    • With at least one Crystallite, one can block an enemy while the other heals, then they can switch once the injured Durax has recovered. This will keep an enemy in place for an almost indefinite amount of time, stalling even better than Prince Denas and Bravebark, but requiring a lot of micro-management.
    • The Crystallites also works well on levels with multiple, widespread paths with enemies that have consistently mediocre health and damage, namely the Hulking Rage levels which Durax was released alongside in the same update, making him tailor-made for this purpose.
    • While Durax can't deal much damage by himself, the combination of his Crystallites copies can add up to a considerable amount. The Crystallites copies can use all of Durax's skills except for Crystallites, effectively multiplying his damage output by 2.5 if used well.
    • Durax and his copies can be micromanaged all attack a single unit or spread out to fight other enemies, dealing a lot of damage in both scenarios, but in various ways. Players can make use of this versatility to handle mobs and fearsome foes. It also allows the player to reinforce more than one choke point, a valuable asset similar to that of Vez'nan's Demon and Prince Denas's Kingsguards.
  • Durax and his Crystallites are able to utilize the following three skills (Armblade, Lethal Prism, and Shard Lance) with the same damage perimeters with a separate cooldown;
    • Armblade serves as Durax's melee tool that deals up to 180 true damage, and has a cooldown of 22 seconds.
      • This means that Durax and his Crystallites can potentially inflict up to 540 true damage to a single isolated foe, or dish out 180 damage to three different foes.
    • Lethal Prism serves as a unreliable group damage tool that randomly fires up to 5 lightning bolts to various enemies, and has the potential to be concentrated on small groups of enemies. inflicting up to 35-55 true damage per bolt. Lethal Prism have a cooldown of 22 seconds.
      • Positioning is key to maximizing the use of Lethal Prism, since Durax or his Crystallites do not generate bolts if the skill is used and no other enemies are in range of the ability after triggering the skill.
      • Durax and his Crystallites can potentially inflict up to 825 true damage to a single isolated foe if positioned well. They can also trigger Lethal Prism whilst engaged in melee combat.
    • Shard Lance serve as Durax's ranged tool that is thrown at a single enemy, dealing up to 180 true damage, and has a cooldown of 26 seconds.
      • This means that Durax and his Crystallites can potentially inflict up to 540 true damage to a single isolated foe, or dish out 180 damage to three different foes.
      • Uniquely, Shard Lance can be used to either hurt the frontmost enemy in a wave, or positioned in the heart of the enemy forces to deal damage to a random enemy, prioritizing anything behind Durax and his Crystallites.
  • Sapphire Fangs is Durax's Hero Spell that serves as a versatile execution tool or a group clearing tool, dealing up to 1200 true damage, split between enemies. Depending on how many enemies are there in the spell's perimeter, it can be used to kill or weaken a crowd of low tier enemies, or to severely weaken/outright kill a single enemy. The brief stun from Sapphire Fangs can interrupt an enemy's ability or attack animation when timed right. Sapphire Fangs have a cooldown of 45 seconds.
    • It is advised to not act on impulse when using Sapphire Fangs, as wrongly positioning the spell could lead to unwanted damage being shared amongst foes or overkill against a weaker foe.

Quotes[]

  • "I’m the one who knocks!"
  • "Durax don’t text."
  • "Say crystal again."
  • "Your doom is crystal clear."
  • (death) *shatters*

Trivia[]

  • Durax bears a striking similarity to the Sorcerer Stones that are found in the ancient city of the Elves, especially when he is in his Lethal Prism form.
  • The basis for Durax has been explained by Ironhide on their official Facebook page. "Durax was a Uruguayan brand for glass made plates and cups that pride itself in making them very resistant. So when the time came for making a crystal made golem, we couldn't resist the joke. So there, now you know."
  • Durax may also have been partially inspired by the alien Diamondhead from the cartoon television series Ben 10. Diamondhead is a being of living crystal, able to shape his body into blades and throw projectile diamonds much like Durax.
  • "I'm the one who knocks"
    • A line spoken by Walt in the television series Breaking Bad. It is part of a monologue where he implies that he is the person behind the door with a gun, as opposed to the person who opens the door and gets shot. He isn't in danger, he is the danger.
  • "Durax don't text"
    • A slightly out of context quote (as 'texting' doesn't exist in the Kingdom Rush universe) but is from the 2010 Machete, where the texting ability of the titular character is often brought up.
  • Durax along with Karkinos and Saitam are the only heroes to speak their own names. He is also the only hero outside of Kingdom Rush Frontiers to do so.
  • Durax is the first hero to have a passive aura beneath him since the heroes of original Kingdom Rush.
  • Durax is the fourth hero in the saga who's able to copy himself after Magnus Spellbane, Mirage and Oloch. However, his copies have the exact same stats and abilities as he does (aside from duplication), making them much more powerful than those of the other heroes.
